Congratulations! You’ve chosen the perfect custom stone surface and are loving the new look and feel of your recent renovation. Interested in finding out how can you keep your surface looking beautiful for a lifetime? Let us provide you with some helpful tips and tricks.

First off, we always recommend starting the process with a qualified stone fabricator. At Dauter Stone, we have over 40+ years of experience and as industry experts we are here to support you with your project from start to finish.

Have a spill? Easily clean up messes with a mild detergent (such as dish soap) mixed with water. We recommend using a microfibre cloth to clean up the mixture due to it’s incredibly absorbent and non-abrasive nature. Acidic substances with a low PH such as lemon juice or vinegar can create etching if left on a stone surface. In this regard, we recommend cleaning up the spill quickly to avoid surface damage.

All of our natural surfaces are finished with a sealer before leaving our facility. Sealed surfaces reduce the absorption of spills and at the same time, prevent etching. For granite and marble surfaces we recommend resealing every couple years depending on the type of stone and the extent of usage.

Avoid the heat. To enhance the longevity of your custom stone, use a trivet and avoid placing hot pans or cookware directly on your surface. Scratches on softer stone surfaces (such as soapstone) are easily avoidable by using a cutting board. Slicing and dicing on a cutting board also helps to protect your surface sealer, extending longevity even further.
