It’s almost impossible to avoid applying heat to your countertop surface when working in a kitchen setting. While it’s beneficial to protect any surface including stone from heat, some custom stone options naturally offer heat-tolerant resilience.
Granite is a natural stone offering both incredibly high heat-resilience as well as durability. Formed naturally within the earth under intense pressure and heat, granite is sometime termed the ‘indestructible’ stone as it can withstand temperatures exceeding 400 degrees Fahrenheit. In outdoor settings, granite is an excellent option for patios as it can remain cool under the heating effects that the summer sun provides. Wonderful granite options include Andromeda Granite, Moonwhite Granite and Caledonia Granite.
Engineered quartz is an equally popular option encompassing a fantastic selection of colours with heat-resistant qualities. Engineered quartz surfaces are comprised of up to 90% quartz, with a mix of pigments and resins. Due to it’s composition, engineered quartz products are heat-resistant however, not heat-proof so we always recommend protecting your custom stone surface by using a trivet or hot pad. A few engineered quartz options we like to recommend include Quartz Reflections Caesarstone, Calacatta CQ5 Quartz and Olimpo Dekton.
Heat-resistant custom stone surfaces also deter the spreading of small fires, a situation which is most common to start in the kitchen as opposed to any other space in the home. Due to their inherently durable nature, custom stone surfaces installed by our team also offer unparrelled longevity allowing for a stress-free cooking experience.
